Who Can Manage My Social Media for Me?
By Tania Potter ·
You have three real choices: hire a person, hire an agency, or have it done for you by a system that writes in your voice and posts on a schedule. Any of them can work. The right one depends on how involved you want to be and how steady you need it to be.
Here is how to think it through, without the jargon.
Why does my social media keep going quiet?
Because the work always wins. You post for a week or two when things are slow, then a busy stretch hits and the pages go silent. That is not a discipline problem. It is a time problem.
Posting well takes ideas, writing, pictures, timing, and someone watching what people respond to. That is a part-time job sitting on top of your real one, and it never stops needing to be done. So the question is not "how do I make myself post more." It is "who takes this off my plate and keeps it going."
What should I ask before I hire someone?
A freelancer or a part-time hire can be great, especially if you want photos and video from your actual jobs. Before you hire, ask:
- Will they learn how you talk, or will it sound like everyone else?
- How often will they post, and on which pages?
- Who approves posts before they go out?
- What happens when they are sick, busy or move on?
The last question is the one owners forget. When the person leaves, the pages tend to go quiet again.
What about an agency?
An agency brings a team and a process. Ask the same questions, plus two more: who will actually write your posts, and how will they learn your business? Plenty of agencies do excellent work. Just make sure you know what you are getting and who is doing it.
What does "done for you, in my voice" look like?
This is what we do with VOPSy, our AI Director of Operations. VOPSy learns your business: what you do, who you serve and how you sound. Then it writes posts in your voice and puts them on your social pages on a schedule. It watches what people answer and leans into what is working.
Our own company pages run this way. I have not had to sit down and post to them myself this year.
You do not need to learn anything. You connect the pages you already have, and a real person sets it up with you.
Will the posts sound like me?
They should, and you are the judge. VOPSy studies how you talk and writes original posts, not copies of things you said before. If a post does not sound right, you say so and it adjusts. You can also keep any topic off-limits.
What you should never see is a post that makes something up. No invented numbers, no made-up customer stories, no promises you did not make. That rule is built in.
Do I have to approve every post?
Only if you want to. Every job runs one of three ways, and you pick: Automate the predictable. Agentic for the judgment work. Human-led when it matters.
For social media that usually looks like this:
- Automate: posts go out on the days and times you chose.
- Agentic: VOPSy decides what to write about this week, based on what people responded to, inside the topics you allowed.
- Human-led: anything sensitive, like a price change or a big announcement, waits for you.
Some owners want to see everything for a few weeks, then let it run. Others let it run from the start. Either way, human-led means you are the boss and can step in anytime. VOPSy posts, then tells you what went out.
What does it need from me?
Very little. At the start: access to the pages you already have, a short conversation about what you do and who you serve, and any topics you want kept off-limits. After that, the occasional photo from a job helps.
When you have news, like a new service, a holiday schedule or a special offer you have decided on, tell VOPSy and it works it into the posts. You never have to sit down and think of what to say next. That part is handled.
What about photos and video?
Your real work is your best material. A photo of a finished job or a quick video of your team says more than any caption. VOPSy can write around what you share, and keep the pages active in between, when you have nothing new to show.
How do I choose?
Ask yourself two questions.
How involved do you want to be? If you enjoy making content and just need a hand, a person or an agency may suit you well. If you want it handled and off your mind, done for you is the better fit.
What happens in your busiest month? Whatever you choose has to keep going when you are slammed. That is the whole point of handing it off.
If you want to see how done for you works, here is social media done for you.
The short answer
Someone can manage your social media for you, and it does not have to be you on a Sunday night. A person, an agency or a system that writes in your voice can all do it. The one that works is the one that keeps going when you are busy.

Questions owners ask
Who can manage my social media if I have no time?
A freelancer, an agency, or a done-for-you system like VOPSy that writes in your voice and posts on a schedule. Pick the one that keeps going in your busiest month.
Will VOPSy post things I did not approve?
Only what you allow. You choose which posts go out on their own and which wait for you, and you can step in anytime.
Does VOPSy make up customer stories or numbers?
No. Posts never invent numbers, customers or results.
